Welcome!![]() We are so glad you are here! These are amazing, exciting times for us! We sold our original building in downtown Mukwonago which we had outgrown. While researching building a new 'green' church we found the 'greenest' method of all- the using of a pre-existing building- and one that would serve us beautifully! On March 4th we plan to hold our first service in our new church home in Waukesha! (A photo of the building is to the right.) This wonderful building has plenty of space for our children and our community in which we all can grow. Come, be thrilled, and grow with us! (In January and February we will continue to gather for Sunday services at the equally wonderful Michael Fields Agricultural Institute in East Troy, more information is further down this page.) United U & U Society of MukwonagoThe United Unitarian & Universalist Society of Mukwonago is affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association of North America (see the link to Our National Organization at top left). As a congregation: We meet in community every Sunday. Our Services![]() Please join us on Sunday for services. Read sample sermons here: www.uumuk.org/sermons.php. Our Sunday Services are held at the Michael Fields Institute in East Troy at 10:30 a.m. Please note that the postal address is on County Road ES, however, the driveway entrance is on Townline Road, about 100 feet south of the intersection of County Road ES and Townline Road. Refer to the tab above and to the left for directions. We enjoy having our services in the East Troy community and at this wonderful facility! Children have religious education classes, September through June, during the service. For a list of upcoming services, go to www.uumuk.org/news.php. And please check the "Newcomers" page (uumuk.org/newcomers.php) for additional information you may find helpful. SPECIAL SERVICE: SUNDAY, JANUARY 29 AT 10:30 a.m. GUEST SPEAKER: DENNIS HAWK SERVICE TITLE: "THE HEART OF A BUFFALO" In this musical drama, Dennis Hawk portrays the character of Black Elk, a 19th century Lakota Medicine Man who relates his experience of hunting buffalo in Canada in the days just after the death of Chief Crazy Horse. This historical account is interlaced with both traditional music and that composed by Dennis, an accomplished Native American Flute player and guitarist, for the presentation. What Do Unitarian Universalists Believe?Maybe you're uncomfortable with the idea of God, or at least someone else's idea of God. Maybe you yearn for a loving, spiritual community where you can be inspired and encouraged as you search for your own truth and meaning. This is a church, you ask? Welcome to Unitarian Universalism! To learn more about what Unitarian Universalists (UU) believe, please click on and read the article: www.uumuk.org/data/What_Do_UUs_Believe.pdf. And if you still have questions, then be sure to visit us Sunday- your questions are always welcome and encouraged! You've come to the right place! Socrates CafeOnce a month, Rev. Linda Hansen facilitates Socrates Cafe' at the Espresso Love Cafe' in downtown Mukwonago at 105 N. Rochester Street. It takes place on the second Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. It is open to everyone in the community! Bring a "big life" question and bring a friend! We are a Welcoming Congregation!UUA Welcoming Congregation Recognition We are a congregation for children, for youth, and for adults of all ages. Spiritual SpaceThe Religious Services Committee and many members of our congregation have been working to create a spiritual atmosphere when we gather for worship on Sunday mornings. Our beautiful chalice banner presents a visual reminder of the symbol of our own UU tradition as well as many other spiritual symbols. Greeters welcome members, friends and guests. The service facilitator works to ready the sanctuary for worship. We've often been reminded that the word "worship" evolved from Anglo-Saxon words for "to shape worth." When we enter the sanctuary that so many have worked to make welcoming for us, we're entering the community of people coming together to help shape, consider, discuss and question our most profound values and beliefs. And we know we'll laugh and cry as we do so. As we greet each other and talk about our families and jobs and environmental concerns and new cars, we can all keep in mind why we choose to gather together and how we can help each other with the fourth principle, the free and responsible search for truth and meaning. That mindset, or spirit, can in itself help create an atmosphere conducive to worship. Try this the next time you're on your way to UUUSM for Sunday service: think about what you value about our time together; think about why you attend Sunday service; think about what Unitarian Universalism means to you; think about what the people you'll see here mean to you. Then Enter, Rejoice and Come In! as we worship and create spiritual space together. Mukwonago, Wisconsin |
